As an Obstetrician Gynaecologist and Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinician, Dr Tan Kai Lit not only specializes in medical and surgical management of high-risk pregnancies (e.g. twins), ultrasound assessment of at-risk fetuses and invasive prenatal diagnostic procedures, but is also trained in gynaecological open laparoscopic surgery, seeing patients with a wide range of gynaecological problems including menstrual disorders,contraception, abnormal bleeding, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, pelvic pain and endometriosis, abnormal PAPsmear/cervical screening results, prolapse, infertility and miscarriage.
He is affiliated with several private hospitals in Singapore, serving largely at Thomson Medical Hospital (TMC) and with admitting rights to Mount Alvernia, Farrer Park, Mount Elizabeth Novena, Mount Elizabeth Orchard, as well as Glenaegles Hospital. He currently runs his own clinic and is appointed the Head of the Fetal Assessment and Ultrasound Department at Thomson Medical Pte Ltd (TMPL). He is also a visiting consultant to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Prior to this, he has served at various hospitals comprising Whittington Hospital (London), National University Hospital Singapore and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital where he was a Consultant and Adjunct Assistant Professor. He held teaching positions in Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine.
Awarded the Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) by Singhealth, he pursued further training in Fetal Medicine where he honed his skills including fetal laparoscopic surgery at Hospital Clinic Barcelona, Spain, one of the world’s eminent centres in foetal medicine.
Dr Tan was involved in extensive obstetric research projects in obstetrics and gynaecology. Awarded the National Medical Research Council award, he looked into the correlation of reduction in growth velocity with perinatal outcome.
